The training centre is located at Ciro Beverage Solutions KZN offices in Mahogany Ridge, Westmead. Angela Todd, national training manager comments: "The burgeoning tourism and hospitality sector in this region demands a high standard of quality coffee products and service. Partnering with Lavazza Worldwide Training Centre Network, which has 43 training centres around the world, we have the resources to deliver international standards and innovation to the local marketplace. This new state-of-the-art facility will give the industry the tools and support to train people in this sector to ensure that local baristas have in-depth and extensive knowledge of the coffee they serve to its best potential and successfully meet global expectations." Ciro's barista training covers subjects from the history of coffee, coffee cultivation, production, palate development, cupping and familiarisation of the required equipment to make proper coffee with an emphasis on innovation and creativity. Each year Ciro trains more than 4 000 baristas and this new centre has several work stations, where trainees will be able to use the machines and review their coffee-making techniques. On opening the new centre, Pauline Leschinsky, Ciro's barista trainer and 2010 runner-up National Barista Champion, who will co-ordinate CIRO's training programme added: “We will be using Lavazza’s finest coffees alongside Ciro's selection and welcome the endorsement of Italy’s No 1 espresso brand". For more information on the barista training courses ranging from Lavazza’s accredited basic, intermediate and advanced espresso courses, to the one-day CIRO Coffee Academy Coffee Shop course, or the five-hour option for Coffee Passionate People, which delves into the art of home brewing, contact (031) 792 0900.
